Exercise Therapy Richmond

Personalised Exercise Therapy To Reduce Pain, Restore Movement & Build Long-Term Strength

EXERCISE THERAPY

Professional Exercise Therapy In Richmond

Exercise Therapy is one of the most effective evidence-based treatments for reducing pain, restoring movement, improving strength, and helping people recover from musculoskeletal injuries and persistent physical problems. Rather than simply treating symptoms, Exercise Therapy aims to improve the way your body moves and functions by addressing the underlying causes contributing to pain, weakness, instability, and movement restrictions.

Every rehabilitation programme is tailored specifically to your individual assessment, injury, physical abilities, and recovery goals. Exercises are carefully progressed as your symptoms improve, allowing you to regain strength, confidence, mobility, and function safely without overloading injured tissues.

Whether you're recovering from a sports injury, managing back pain, experiencing joint stiffness, rehabilitating after surgery, or looking to return to running or the gym, Exercise Therapy provides a structured pathway towards long-term recovery rather than temporary symptom relief.

At MG Rehab, Exercise Therapy forms the foundation of many treatment programmes and is frequently combined with Deep Tissue Massage, Joint Mobilisation, Acupuncture, and Injury Rehabilitation to help reduce pain, restore movement, and improve physical performance.

Based at Old Deer Park Sports Ground in Richmond, MG Rehab provides personalised Exercise Therapy for clients throughout Richmond, Twickenham, Kew, Barnes, Mortlake, East Sheen, Teddington, and the surrounding areas.

BENEFITS

How Exercise Therapy Can Help

Exercise Therapy is one of the most effective ways to improve movement, build strength, reduce pain, and support long-term recovery from musculoskeletal injuries and persistent physical conditions. Every rehabilitation programme is tailored to your individual needs, helping restore physical function, improve confidence in movement, and safely return you to work, exercise, sport, and everyday activities while reducing the risk of future injury.

Why Exercise Therapy Works

Exercise Therapy works because the body adapts to progressive loading. Rather than relying solely on passive treatments, carefully prescribed exercises encourage muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, and the nervous system to become stronger, more resilient, and better able to tolerate everyday demands.

Every programme begins with a detailed assessment before exercises are selected specifically for your injury, symptoms, current ability, and recovery goals. As your strength, mobility, and confidence improve, exercises are progressed to ensure continued improvement while reducing the likelihood of setbacks.

Unlike generic online exercise programmes, every rehabilitation plan at MG Rehab is personalised, monitored, and adjusted throughout your recovery to help you achieve the best possible long-term outcome.

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

Who Can Benefit From Exercise Therapy?

Exercise Therapy can benefit people of all ages and activity levels, from those recovering after injury or surgery to individuals experiencing persistent pain, reduced mobility, muscular weakness, or difficulty returning to normal activities.

Whether you enjoy running, cycling, going to the gym, playing competitive sport, working in a physically demanding job, or simply want to move more comfortably in everyday life, Exercise Therapy can help restore confidence, improve physical function, and reduce the risk of future injury.

YOUR REHABILITATION

What To Expect During Your Exercise Therapy Programme

Every Exercise Therapy programme at MG Rehab is tailored to your individual symptoms, movement limitations, injury, and recovery goals. Rather than providing generic exercises, every programme begins with a detailed assessment to understand why your symptoms have developed before creating a personalised rehabilitation plan designed to reduce pain, restore movement, rebuild strength, and help you safely return to the activities that matter most.

  • Assessment

Your first appointment begins with a detailed consultation discussing your symptoms, injury history, medical history, activity levels, lifestyle, and recovery goals. This helps identify not only where your pain is located but also the factors contributing to your symptoms.

  • Movement Analysis

Movement quality, flexibility, joint mobility, muscle strength, balance, coordination, and functional performance are assessed to identify the underlying causes of your symptoms and provide the foundation for your personalised rehabilitation programme.

  • Personalised Exercise Programme

Based on your assessment, you'll receive a personalised Exercise Therapy programme tailored specifically to your injury, symptoms, physical ability, and recovery goals. Every exercise is selected for a purpose, helping restore strength, improve mobility, reduce pain, and rebuild confidence in movement.

  • Exercise Progression

As your recovery progresses, your rehabilitation programme is continually reviewed and updated to ensure exercises remain challenging, appropriate, and effective. Progressive loading helps improve tissue capacity, physical function, and resilience while reducing the risk of setbacks.

  • Integrated Rehabilitation

Where appropriate, Exercise Therapy is combined with Deep Tissue Massage, Joint Mobilisation, Acupuncture, or Injury Rehabilitation to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation programme focused on restoring movement, improving physical function, and supporting long-term recovery.

  • Return To Activity

Whether your goal is returning to work, running, the gym, competitive sport, or simply moving confidently without pain, your rehabilitation programme progresses safely to help restore strength, improve performance, and reduce the likelihood of future injuries.

INTEGRATED TREATMENT

Exercise Therapy As Part Of Your Recovery

Exercise Therapy forms the foundation of many rehabilitation programmes at MG Rehab. While progressive exercise is often the key to improving strength, mobility, and long-term physical function, the best outcomes are frequently achieved by combining Exercise Therapy with other evidence-informed treatments. Depending on your assessment, symptoms, and recovery goals, your rehabilitation programme may include a combination of hands-on treatment, movement therapy, and rehabilitation techniques designed to reduce pain, restore movement, and help you return confidently to everyday activities, work, and sport.

  • Sports Massage helps reduce muscular tension, improve circulation, and support recovery following physical activity. Combined with Exercise Therapy, it can help prepare muscles for rehabilitation exercises, improve movement quality, and support your return to training and sport.

  • Deep Tissue Massage targets deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to reduce persistent muscular tension, improve tissue mobility, and relieve movement restrictions. When combined with Exercise Therapy, it helps create better movement while improving your ability to perform rehabilitation exercises effectively.

  • Acupuncture may be incorporated into your rehabilitation programme to help reduce pain, relieve muscle tension, and improve comfort during recovery. This can make it easier to participate in Exercise Therapy while supporting your body's natural healing processes.

  • Joint Mobilisation techniques help restore normal joint movement where stiffness or restricted mobility is limiting your recovery. Improving joint mobility alongside Exercise Therapy helps restore more efficient movement patterns and improve overall physical function.

  • For more complex injuries, Exercise Therapy forms a central part of a personalised Injury Rehabilitation programme. Progressive rehabilitation exercises are carefully prescribed and progressed alongside hands-on treatment to help restore strength, rebuild confidence, and safely return you to work, exercise, and sport.

  • Supportive taping techniques may be used where appropriate to reduce strain on injured tissues, improve joint support, and increase confidence during movement. Injury Taping can complement Exercise Therapy by allowing you to continue progressing safely throughout your rehabilitation programme.

  • Long-Term Recovery, Not Temporary Relief

Can’t recommend Michael enough. Have seen him on a number of occasions for long standing issues, most of which are as a consequence of playing football for 24 years. Michael took the time to listen to me to understand the areas of concern and then proceeded to treat the troublesome areas. While the session may have ended I left with a treatment plan to action, resulting in greater mobility and less pain. Would recommend Michael to anyone!

Michael knows his stuff inside out. He’s helped me improve hamstring and lower back pain in just a few sessions. I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking to recover from injury or just stay fit and active. I’ve been to many physios in my time and Michael is amongst the best. If you’re considering physio with Michael, just book in now - you won’t regret it.
